We aim to help you develop a better understanding of yourself and support you towards a greater sense of well-being

Psychological Therapy

Have you experienced distressing life events and although they happened in the past they continue to impact your current life?

Do you wish you had the space to explore your current difficulties?

Do you wish you could just ‘put the past in the past’?

Do you have difficulties because of your early life experiences?

Psychological Therapy provides a safe space for you to explore specific issues or more general problems you are encountering. At Talking Trauma, we are particularly interested in how your life experiences have shaped you as an individual, and aim to help you develop a better understanding of yourself and support you towards a greater sense of well-being. Traumatic life experiences can impact all aspects of a person’s life; we will help you to overcome the past and look to a future you deserve.

We have extensive experience in working with clients who have lived through distressing life events. Our expertise and area of therapeutic interest is working with trauma and abuse. We predominantly use Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat trauma. EMDR is an effective therapy in working with clients that may feel unable to talk about their problems in detail but need to feel relief from psychological distress. This approach can also be used for clients with other difficulties such as anxiety and phobias. There is also limited availability for intensive EMDR treatment. This involves long therapy sessions (3-4 hours) over a short time period. This way of working can help those looking to reduce their distress quickly.

Choosing a therapist to work with can feel confusing and overwhelming. Given the importance of finding the right therapist for you, we always suggest a free 15-minute zoom consultation to discuss your needs and to make sure you feel comfortable in beginning the therapeutic process. This will always be offered by Dr Joanna King. If you decide to begin therapy, a therapist will be suggested and we will then complete a thorough assessment to understand your goals for ongoing treatment. We accept referrals from Aviva and WPA insurance.
